Terra is located in an historic fieldstone building in St. Helena, California. Built in 1884, the building originally housed a foundry before subsequent incarnations as a glove factory, chicken hatchery, and the Robert Louis Stevenson Museum. The intimacy and romance of the setting, with its arched windows, stone walls, and terra-cotta floors, have helped make it most successful as a restaurant.

Their menu is seasonal, offering an interesting variety of items, such as Salmon and Tuna Tartare, Radicchio Salad with Parmesan Balsamico Vinaigrette, Sauteed Maine Scallops with Chanterelle Mushroom and Parsley Nage, Grilled Quail on Eggplant and Goat Cheese Lasagna with Herb Jus, and Broiled Sake Marinated Alaskan Black Cod with Shrimp Dumplings in Shiso Broth.
