The road east from
Garberville winds up and up to spectacular views, then loops down to Alderpoint and the
Eel River (about one hour). Keep going to the little villages of Zenia and Kettenpom for vast unspoiled open spaces.
Ruth Lake, a popular vacation spot, is further down the trail.
