Effie Yeaw has been called the leading spirit in the movement for understanding and protecting Sacramento's natural environment. During the 1950's and 1960's, she persevered to preserve heritage oaks and other trees, plant seedlings. She was also involved in the formation of the Save the American River Association (SARA), and establishment of the American River Parkway. Mrs. Yeaw died of cancer on January 3, 1970.The Effie Yeaw Nature Center features a salute to songbirds exhibit, live animals, trails through a 77-acre nature area and weekend programs. This gives visitors an up-close look at the American River Parkway's wildlife. The park is open daily from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. There is a $4.00 parking fee.
