El Cerrito is strategically located along Interstate 80 and is less than 30 miles from two major airports. El Cerrito is located in Contra Costa County between Richmond and Oakland along Interstate 80 near the San Pablo Reservoir. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 24,044, an increase of 1,175 since 1990.
