El Monte is located in
Los Angeles County on the eastern city limits of Los Angeles between
Pasadena and
Riverside along Interstate 5 near the
Angeles National Forest.
Its name derives from the Spanish for "wood" or "thicket". Once the site of Gay's Lion Farm, home of the MGM lion.
