Folsom is on the North side of Folsom Lake, an 18,000-acre, man-made lake. Folsom has miles of preserved wetlands and creeks. The whole area surrounding Folsom has wonderful hiking trails for the outdoor lover.
Folsom is wonderfully located in eastern Sacramento County between Sacramento and Placerville along Highway 50. El Dorado County, famous for its wineries, is nearby. Lake Tahoe is a mere 90 miles, known for its casinos as well as its winter and summer resorts. San Francisco lies to the west about 120 miles.
Folsom was originally a gold mining town, as were most of the California towns in the area. The Historic District, known as Old Town, is known for its fine homes and historic landmarks from the gold rush era. This area also has a wide collection of fine restaurants, shops, and museums.
