Folsom Historic Powerhouse

The technological breakthrough that ushered in the "Age of Electricity" was made at this site on July 13, 1895. Three-phase, 60-cycle alternating current was sent 22 miles to the city of Sacramento to power streetcars and light up the metropolis. Today the Folsom Powerhouse is the only existing intact 19th century powerhouse open to the public. Its is part of the California State Parks.
