Harvey Mudd College was founded in 1955 by the family of Harvey S. Mudd, a mining engineer and co-founder of one of the richest copper mines in the world, Cyprus Mines. Designed to overcome many of the shortcomings of traditional, narrow technical training, HMC has become a leader in mathematics and engineering education.

Harvey Mudd is a member of The Claremont Colleges-- five, independent colleges and two graduate institutions and is located in Claremont which is in Los Angeles County. Total enrollment is approximately 700 and student housing is available for 632.
