Founded in 1926 by newspaper publisher and philanthropist Ellen Browning Scripps, Scripps College is the women's college of the Claremont Colleges. Scripps' scenic 30-acre campus, listed in the National Register of Historic Places, is located at the foot of the San Gabriel Mountains in Claremont, California, 35 miles east of Los Angeles. There are 21 buildings on the campus: thirteen academic/administrative and eight residence halls. Twelve additional buildings are shared by all seven of The Claremont Colleges, including libraries, a medical services center, and a bookstore. 21 Departments, including Gender and Women's Studies, and 16 Programs, including the Scripps Teaching and Learning Assessment Project, grace the College's curricula. The College is in Los Angeles County and has an enrollment of about 700.
