Saint Mary's College was founded in 1863 making it one of the oldest colleges in the West. The College was originally campus was located in San Francisco, and operated for several years under Archdiocesan direction. Saint Mary's continues to distinguish itself as an excellent Catholic, Lasallian, Liberal Arts College where an outstanding faculty that values learning and student interaction brings these traditions to life. The Lasallian Christian Brothers continue to direct the College and exercise an indispensable role in its administration, instruction and fundraising.

Saint Mary's College is a place of beauty, located in the Moraga foothills just 8 miles east of Berkeley and 20 miles east of San Francisco. The 420-acre campus, ranked among the top 20 most beautiful campuses in the Country, enjoys a moderate climate which permits year long outdoor recreation.

The College is located in Contra Costa County, and has an enrollment of a 4400. Student housing is available for 1365.

All year Satellite Wagering, Waterworld USA, Paradise Island Fun Center and an RV Park are just a few of the features of the Cal Expo.The first State Fair was held in 1854 in San Francisco at the old Music Hall. The fair offered premiums (prizes) for its competitions and included such agricultural exhibits such as 2-inch-long peanuts, 72-pound beets and a 10-pound carrot that was longer than 3 feet. Horseracing was part of that first fair and has continued to be a part of the fair ever since.
