St. Rose Hospital is a significant part of the history of healthcare ministry. In 1953 a group of
Hayward citizens formed a committee to study the health needs of southern Alameda County. The Sisters of St. Joseph of Wichita accepted responsibility for the ownership, construction, and operation of the new facility that opened October 22, 1962.
Today, St. Rose Hospital is an acute, general, not-for-profit, 175-bed facility serving the needs of the diverse cultural and ethnic population of southern Alameda County and its environs. St. Rose Hospital provides primary and secondary medical/surgical services and skilled nursing care while networking with others to ensure continuity for tertiary care and other needs.
