UCSD Medical Center - Hillcrest is the primary hospital for the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine. The region's only academic medical center offers both primary care and specialized services, including a full range of general and specialty surgery, cardiology, endocrinology, diagnosis and management of genetic diseases, neurology, orthopedics, oncology, pediatrics, reproductive medicine and fertility services, pulmonary medicine, and home health care. The recently renovated 440-bed hospital at UCSD Medical Center - Hillcrest is also the primary site for such regional services as the comprehensive organ transplant program offering heart, lung, kidney, pancreas, liver and bone marrow transplantation; the Regional Burn Center; the National Institutes of Health-designated Clinical Research Center, the Infant Special Care Center and the region's only National Cancer Institute designated Cancer Center.
