Irvine Regional Hospital & Medical Cente

The history of Irvine Regional Hospital and Medical Center, then called Irvine Medical Center, dates back to 1960, when, in response to both community and physician interest, efforts began to develop a hospital in the then new city of Irvine.

It was not until 1980, when PICH (People of Irvine for a Community Hospital) was developed that some momentum began to build. PICH was a grass-roots community group which was dedicated to getting a community hospital established in Irvine, which, by that time, was the one of the largest cities in California without a hospital.

Opening in 1990, Irvine Regional Hospital and Medical Center today is a full service, 176 private room hospital, equipped to handle various inpatient and outpatient procedures. The hospital features an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Progressive Care Unit and a separate outpatient surgery center for outpatient procedures.
