St. Joseph's Behavioral Health Center has been proudly serving the community for 25 years. In 1974, behavioral health services opened as a small department of St. Joseph?s Medical Center in Stockton.

The 1980?s brought awareness and growth of Chemical Dependency in terms of funding and programs resulting in increased space needs for Behavioral Health. In 1988, the unit was moved to its current location at 2510 North California Street, Stockton, in what was the former Oak Park Hospital.

Exciting changes occurred in October 1999 with the Chemical Dependency Unit moving to the Outpatient building. Medical detoxification continues on an inpatient basis at St. Joseph's Behavioral Health Center, but the patient begins immediately living out his/her sobriety by transferring to a day treatment program. Returning home at night provides a more realistic setting to practice the treatment skills learned and recent reports show higher success with this treatment pattern.
