Merced was incorporated in 1889; the City offers a rich and varied living environment with a unique blend of old and new. Merced is located in Merced County (of which it is the county seat) north of Fresno between Modesto and Madera along Highway 99 on the banks of the Merced River near the San Joaquin River and Lake McClure.
