Mojave was established in 1876 when the Southern Pacific Railroad laid out the original plat for a town on its line between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Mining and transportation have played key roles in Mojave's history. Founded by the Southern Pacific Railroad in 1876, Mojave continues to be a key rail and highway junction. Mojave is located near where Highway 58 crosses Hwy 14 in Kern County at the western edge of the Mojave Desert. Mojave is part of the Bakersfield, California metro area.
