Covering 116,000 acres of the Inyo National Forest near Lee Vining, the area surrounds Mono Lake and includes hilly areas more than 10 million years old along with the Mono Craters are the youngest mountain range in North America. In fact, one of the volcanoes erupted about 600 years ago. Hot springs and steam vents in Mono Lake are further evidence of volcanic activity.
