Moraga is located in Contra Costa County south of Lafayette. The Town of Moraga is located about 15 miles, (As the crow flies), or 20 miles by road, east of San Francisco.The Town of Moraga is named for Joaquin Moraga, the grandson of Joseph Joaquin Moraga who was second in command of the Anza expedition of 1776, the founder of San Francisco, Mission Dolores and the founder and first commandant of the Presidio. The Town was incorporated in 1974. Moraga, once a ranching community, blossemd in the 1970's as a Oakland / San Francisco bedroom community. Many tracts of homes were built after the late 1960's. The community has continued to grow since then. Nestled in the "East Bay" hills, the weather is moderate in the winter and hot and dry in the summer. Residents and visitors of Moraga have access to first class dining, lodging, shopping and entertainment of the San Francisco Bay Area.
