Ocotillo Wells State Vehicular Recreation Area is adjacent to Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. Ocotillo Wells has over 42,000 acres of desert terrain, from below sea level to a 400-foot elevation. The wash-and-ridge terrain includes a butte with dunes and a sand bowl, a blow-sand dune, springs and a camp on a former homestead site. The park has pay showers, picnic tables, shade armadas, fire rings, and a dump station available. No water is accessible here.

The park is a motorcycle, four-wheel drive, and all terrain vehicle dune buggy use area in east Greater San Diego and in West Imperial County. Access is via Hwy 78, approximately 35 miles east of Julian or 20 miles west of Hwy 86. The park is open 24 hours. No reservations are required.
