This is the "gateway" town to the Point Reyes National Seashore and it carries a Miwok name - Olema - which means coyote. Today, Olema has a few shops, two restaurants, a lodge, several bed and breakfasts, a large campground, and a large retreat for the Vedanta Society (a precursor to Hinduism).
Located in Marin County north of San Francisco on Highway 1, Olema is a place to get provisions before exploring Point Reyes National Seashore.
Olema is part of the San Francisco, California metro area.
