The Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge Complex, located approximately 90 miles north of the city of
Sacramento. The Complex consists of six national wildlife refuges for a total of 35,000 acres in the Sacramento Valley of California. The Refuges serve as a resting and feeding area for nearly half the migratory birds on the Pacific Flyway.
Among the more than 175 species of birds that visit the refuge are hawks, egrets, and herons in addition to the many ducks and geese, who use the 10,783-acre refuge for a wintering area.
A 6-mile auto route and 2-mile hiking trail lead through parts of the refuge. Visitors should contact refuge headquarters for information about regulations.
