Saddleback Butte State Park

Saddleback Butte State Park was originally established in the Mojave Desert in 1960 to preserve its Joshua tree woodland. To the east of the forest rises the 3,751-foot Saddleback Butte. A key attraction is the self-guided Joshua Trail. Wildlife includes antelope, ground squirrels and small birds known as red-shafted flickers. Camping is for groups only.

The park is 17 miles east of Lancaster on Avenue J East.
