Perhaps the best known shortline in the West. Founded in 1897, this 49-mile long railroad winds through beautiful California countryside. From the ranching capital of
Oakdale to the logging towns of Chinese Camp and Standard, the railroad connects
Tuolumne County and
Stanislaus County's with the rest of the nation. Visitors can see and ride the steam trains from
Railtown 1897 State Historic Park in
Jamestown.
