Whittier College

Founded in 1887 by the Society of Friends, better known as the Quakers, is an independent liberal arts institution with no religious affiliation. Its 95-acre campus is in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains. Most undergraduates live on campus. Almost three quarters are from California, with many other states and foreign countries also represented. The most popular major is business, followed by English and biology.

Whittier's most famous alumnus was Richard M. Nixon, who graduated summa cum laude in history in 1934 and later became President of the United States.
