There are many lakes and rivers nearby.Yuba City was founded in 1849 on land purchased from John Sutter by Samuel Brannan, Pierson Reading, and Henry Cheever. They came to establish a distribution center for supplying the Gold Rush 49ers. Yuba City is located in Sutter County (of which it is the county seat) north of Sacramento between Williams and Marysville along Highway 20 on the banks of the Feather River near the Sacramento River and Englebright Lake. Yuba City is part of the Yuba City, California metro area.
