Hudson Bay

Hudson Bay is a great gulf or inland sea bordering the provinces of Quebec, Ontario, and Manitoba, as well as Nanuvik, recently separated from the Northwest Territories. Including James Bay, it extends about 900 miles from north to south and comes within about 300 miles of Lake Superior. With a surface area of about 400,000 square miles, its average depth is only 420 feet.

Hudson Bay was discovered in 1610 by Henry Hudson. In 1670, the English crown granted to the Hudson's Bay Company exclusive trading rights in the entire region.
