The city of Antonito was marked by the arrival of its railroad, and remains a shipping point for the Southern San Luis Valley. Antonito is located just north of the New Mexico state line, on Hwy 285. The Rio Grande National Forest, La Jara Reservoir and La Jara State Fishing Area are nearby. Visit Antonito via the historic Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad, the longest and highest narrow gauge railroad in the world, featuring a steam locomotive from the 1880s.
