Meeker is near Flat Tops Wilderness Area, home to the world's largest herd of indigenous elk and the second largest wilderness in the state. Guest ranches and and abundance of outdoor adventures draw visitors to the area. Flat Tops Trail Scenic Byway starts in Meeker. Lake Avery and Lake Avery Fishing Area are nearby. The city's main street is still reminiscent of the days when ranchers drove livestock through the town to water and pasture. The city, accessible from anywhere, features many untrodden local paths suited to backroads exploration, as well as expertly groomed winter snowmobile trails. Authentic Indian petroglyphs can also be found in the vicinty.
