Paonia was named (although misspelled) for the multitude of peonie flowers in the area. The area produces an abundance of fruit and vegetables, with cherries being the top crop. Paonia also offers an abundance of outdoor activities. A nationally-recognized environmental newspaper is published here as well.
Paonia is located east of Hwy 133 nine miles north of Hotchkiss.
