Ridgway is located south of
Montrose off Highway 550. In the late 1800s, Ridgway was a link along the Rio Grande Southern Railroad route. Later, the town was a miner's supply town and cattle ranching area. The 1970s film True Grit was filmed here.
Ridgway State Park is just two miles north of town, and features boating, hiking, fishing, and picnicking.
