Situated at the base of Battle Mountain, one of the world's richest sources of gold, Victor is home to the largest gold mine in the state, which is still in operation. Gold mining is a large part of the local economy. At one time during the heyday of the gold rush in the 1890s, the streets of Victor were paved with gold.
The town's population has tripled in the last five years, and the city is currently upgrading and adding amenities like historic streetlights. More than 300 of the town's historic brick homes still stand, housing shops, art studios and small businesses. Several recreation trails take hikers through historic mining structures.
The nearby Skagaway Reservoir offers parks and fishing. {goldbelt] offers a tour of the Victor area, and follows old stage and railroad lines.
At an elevation of nearly 10,000 feet on the southwest side of Pike's Peak, Victor is home to the highest bridge in the state highway system - the 250-foot high bridge spans Arequa Gulch.
