Since 1899 the potter's art has been alive in Colorado Springs at the Van Briggle Art Pottery, established by Artus Van Briggle after years of training at the Rockwood Pottery in Cincinnati, Ohio, and at the Beau Arts Academy in Paris. With his wife, Anne, who was also an accomplished artist, Artus Van Briggle began a tradition of making fine pottery which quickly swept the western art world. Their pieces won numerous national and international awards, placing the Van Briggle Art Pottery among the great potteries of the era. The Van Briggle tradition continues today. The collection of pieces produced by the artisans at their studios is a repertoire of enduring designs formed in the minds and hands of their designers over the last 98 years. They invite you to visit their studios, where you will see how clay, known by skilled hands, becomes a work of art.
