Essex Steam Train and Riverboat was established after the Civil War, two coal-fired locomotives now pull restored railroad cars as the visitor travels north from Essex Station, through the towns of Deep River and Chester where meadows, farms, a millpond with waterfall, and bridges make scenic the journey along the Connecticut River near Deep River. The Becky Thatcher, the Silver Star and the Cross Rip cruise up the Connecticut River, from Deep River to East Haddam.
