Earthplace - The Nature Discovery Center

For Environmental Activities

This 62-acre sanctuary includes 3 miles of trails, a native plants courtyard, a bird and butterfly garden, 12 dioramas of nature displays, and the Discovery Room and EcoResource Room, that feature books, puzzles, games, and displays of local small animals. The Animal Hall and outdoor bird cages house "species ambassadors" of wildlife that cannot be released due to their injuries, including owls and hawks, as well as a collection of teaching animals, such as snakes, ferrets, amphibians and a rabbit. The Mary Eason Swett Wildlife Care and Rehabilitation Program is one of the largest in Connecticut to accept and rehabilitate injured wildlife. Programs include nature walks, canoe trips, hands-on activities, and live animal programs.
