University of Connecticut

Founded in 1881 as the Storrs Agricultural School, this institution experienced four more name changes till it became in 1939 the University of Connecticut (UConn), and was designated by the Connecticut General Assembly as the State's land-grant college.

As a result of several expansion periods, UConn maintains eight campuses on over 4,000 acres of land. It boasts seventeen schools and colleges, and a combined enrollment of more than 24,000 students, of which undergraduates outnumber graduates about 3 to 1.
