Founded in 1927 as the Junior College of Connecticut, the first junior college chartered by any legislature in the northeastern states. The University of Bridgeport is a private, non-profit, independent, nonsectarian university offering programs in the arts, humanities, natural and social sciences, and education. The 86-acre campus is an urban area 60 miles northeast of New York City. Average class size is 12; enrollment about 3500. Degrees are offered up to the doctorate. Fraternities, sororities and over 50 clubs and organizations are on campus.
