Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, Freer GalleryTwo Smithsonian Institution Asian Art Museums |
Presented by the Smithsonian Institution, these two galleries display predominantly Asian artwork. Located on the National Mall at 12th Street and Independence Avenue, the two galleries are connected by an underground exhibition space.
The Sackler features temporary exhibits of Asian art, drawn from major collectors around the globe. There is also a permanent collection of Chinese jades, Iranian silver, and contemporary Japanese ceramics. The Freer Gallery shares space between Asian works and 19th to 20th century American artists. The Peacock Room is the only example of American James Whistler's interior designs.
