Delaware Museum of Natural History |
Emphasizing mollusks and birds, the DMNH research collections reflect the original collecting interests of founder John E. du Pont. The collections are divided into two Departments: Mollusks (also handling other non-vertebrates including insects, spiders, plants), and Birds (also handling mammals, reptiles, amphibians). These collections contain research-quality specimens suitable for scientific study. Accompanying the specimens is collection data including locality, date and collector's name. The Research library includes more than 10,000 volumes with an emphasis on mollusks, birds and Delmarva ecosystems. The library is exceptionally strong in classic works, including a number of rare, pre-Linnean volumes, as well as substantial holdings of recent monographs, reprints and journals.
