Transpeninsular Marker |
Erected April 26, 1751, this stone marks the east end of the Transpeninsular Line, surveyed 1750-1751, a 70-mile long line connecting the Atlantic Ocean and the Chesapeake Bay. The line marks the southern boundary between Pennsylvania's `Three Lower Counties` (now Delaware) and Maryland. The midpoint of the line was later used by Mason and Dixon (1764-1767), whose line runs north on the south side of Fenwick Island Lighthouse.
