Historical Society of Delaware, founded in 1864, is a private, non-profit, educational organization operated for the public. It provides and encourages a greater understanding and appreciation of history, particularly the history of the State of Delaware. They collect and preserve materials relating to the history of Delaware and Delawareans, interpreting that history through research, exhibitions, publications, and educational programs. It maintains a Research Library and the Delaware History Museum in Wilmington, as well as three historic sites known as Old Town Hall, Willington Square and the Read House and Gardens.
