Accrington is a town in NE
Lancashire. Its growth and prosperity were due to the textile industry. The greatest development occurred during the 19th century. In 1801 it was a small village with 3000 inhabitants, but by 1911 it was an industrial town with a population of 45,000. Its present population is around 32,000. A notable feature of the town is the viaduct which carries train traffic over the city centre.
