Corfe Castle |
The ruins of this 1,000 year old castle constitute one of Britain's most impressive landmarks, marking the skyline of the Isle of Purbeck since the time of William the Conqueror. The castle building was destroyed by Parliamentary forces in 1646; the ancient Corfe Common and Creech Grange Arch, a folly affording outstanding views of the area, still remain and can be visited. Castle history is outlined at the nearby Castle View exhibition center. Open Jan-Dec; gift shop and tea room on site. Tel: +44 (0)1929 481 294, Fax: +44 (0)1929 481 294
