House of Windsor (Saxe-Coburg-Gotha)

Edward VII was the son of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. He adopted his father's surname, Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, and ruled in that name. Due to strong anti-German feeling during World War I, the royal family under George V changed its name to Windsor. The change, however, made no practical difference. Successive monarchs up to the present have belonged to the House of Windsor: Edward VIII, George VI, and Elizabeth II.
