Greenich is a metropolitan borough of London, in Kent on the Thames, three miles southeast of London Bridge. The Royal Observatory was located on a hilltop in the center of Greenwich Park from 1674 until 1946, when the increasing light and haze of London forced its removal to Hurstmonceux Castle near Eastbourne in Sussex.
