This 17th-century house was designed by Sir Robert Pratt for Sir Ralph Bankes to replace his ruined family seat at Corfe Castle, and later altered in the 19th-century. On display is a superior collection of paintings and an exhibit of Egyptian artifacts from 3,000 BC. The grounds encompass 250 acres of wooded parkland through which visitors may walk, with a woodland play area for children. Gardens feature a parterre, sunken garden, fernery, cedar walk and lime walk planted in the 17th century. Also on-site gift shop and restaurant. Open April-October.
