Set high on the Cranborne Chase, this is one of the most unusual gardens in Britain. The unique gardens were created in 1880 by General Pitt Rivers, and named for the local Wych Elm, or 'Larmer Tree,' which stood on the Wiltshire/Dorset border. In addition to outstanding views of the surrounding area, the gardens are highlighted by a fascinating collection of Colonial and Oriental buildings, a Roman temple, and an open-air theater. The gardens serve as the site for concerts, theatrical presentations, and festivals throughout the year. Also a gift shop and restaurant on site. Gardens open Easter-October; closed Saturdays and during festivals. Groups welcome. Tel: +44 (0)1725 516 228, Fax: +44 (0)1725 516 449
