Muncaster Castle, Gardens & Owl Centre

Home to the Pennington family since 1208, Muncaster Castle houses a large number of historic artifacts collected by the family over the centuries; current owner Patrick Gordon-Duff-Pennington offers visitors a free audio tour. Outside, miles of paths wind through natural woodland where plants and animals find sanctuary, as well as a terrace which dates to the Georgian period. Muncaster boasts the finest Owl Centre in the world, operated by the World Owl Trust; a talk and flying display are given daily, mid-March to early November (weather permitting). Other facilities include a children's play area, restored 12th-century church (in use), and wildfowl pond.
