Northampton is the capital of Northamptonshire, at the head of navigation on the Nene. It is located 65 miles northwest of London. Roman remains have been found in the vicinity and the town was a settlemtn of the Angles as well as the Danes. It was the scene of several parliaments from the 12th to 14th centuries and in 1460 was the site of the battle in which Henry VI was taken prisoner.
