Raby Castle

One of the finest medieval castles in the country, situated on 200 landscaped acres of Deer Park, highlighted by lakes and walled gardens. Home of the Vane family since 1626, Raby has 11th-century origins, but the major building works took place in the 14th century. Castle features include the vast Barons' Hall, Entrance Hall with access for carriages to be drawn through the Castle, and lavish Octagonal Drawing Room. Displayed are fine paintings, furniture and a renowned collection of Meissen Porcelain. The 18th-century Coach House contains the family's collection of carriages, including the Duke of Cleveland's State Coach used at the coronation of King Edward VII in 1903. A diverse gift shop sells plants from the Castle Gardens; the former stabling is now a Tearoom.
