This 1/2-mile-long grass terrace constructed by Thomas Duncombe in 1758, and adjoining woodland, features vistas over Rievaulx Abbey to Ryedale and the Hambleton Hills. An abundance of spring flowers and two mid-18th-century temples make this an idyllic and picturesque landscape. At each end of the terrace is a classical-style temple, one of which has an exhibition in the basement. The Ionic temple, intended as a banqueting house, displays elaborate ceiling paintings and fine 18th-century furniture. There is no access to the Abbey from the Terrace.
